Positive: This Pousada was initially booked purely for its location near the border with Paraguay. The family owners are lovely friendly people who are so kind. When I went out at night, the lady owner waited in the car park to see i got back OK. There is a local bar (Degusta Bar, Rua Carlos Souto Major, 393 - Jd Jupira.) that does just burgers and chicken at a cheap price. Not on Google maps, but turn left onto the road, go up the hill to just before the road junction on the left. Near the border are bars and restaurants with more choice. I stuck with my little bar because I liked it. The breakfast is a continental one with rolls/bread and various meats and cheeses. There are fruit and cakes as well as bite-sized local specialities. As i hate coffee, the best thing at breakfast was a hot chocolate with warmed milk, fabulous. Fruit juices are also offered. I loved my clean, spacious room. Even though the hot and cold shower taps are named the wrong way round. 😁😁😁 The photo is the view from the Poussada veranda across to Paraguay.

Negative: It's not a dislike, just a fact i accepted. Pousada 277 is away from the main town, and the area in the evening is devoid of shops open and just Degusta for a bar. I wanted to be near the friendship bridge to walk across. Just follow the stream of people going to Paraguay. You go to the right going over the bridge(Don't forget to get passport stamps out Brazil and in Paraguay) and come back on the opposite side (stamp out and in again) I recommend a taxi to Saltos Monday and return(the driver will wait). Pay in Reals, not Dollars. It's cheaper, bargain hard. I paid 120 Reals, approximately £18. The first price offered was $80US. Ciudad del Este is chaotic. If you love shopping, you could spend all day here with so many market stalls and shops. Many Brazilians do just that. Just follow them with their empty bags over the border.
