Positive: Olive Cottage is in a beautiful quiet village with walks straight from the front door … every person we met were so friendly. The Blue Bell pub is just 7 mins walk away .. it’s dog friendly and has a massive garden and the food is delicious and the staff super friendly. The cottage is beautiful inside with lovely decor and everything you need. The garden is pretty and gets the sunshine. The agents for the owner ‘We Stay’ were very proactive and friendly.
Negative: The cottage is beautiful, but much smaller than we anticipated. We used the second bedroom for storing our bags and to hang up our clothes as too cramped otherwise in our bedroom. Olive cottage is a period property and therefore we knew it would be quirky. The eaves are low in the bedrooms and the ceiling stepping down into the kitchen is low. We are tall and bashed our heads many times, but if you are shorter would be fine. What we hadn’t realised until we had booked the cottage and got the further details from We Stay is that you actually walk through the neighbours courtyard garden to get to the entrance gate of Olive Cottage. That is not part of Olive Cottage. The neighbour is really friendly and so it isn’t a problem . But unfortunately we have a very nervy dog. I chatted to the neighbour and she kindly made sure that her dogs were behind her side garden gate, before we walked through rather than them come and greet us as they can also come right up to the entrance gate at Olive Cottage and this would have frightened our dog. The garden is enclosed with a wall, but as the details say it is not dog proof. A dog with longer legs than a dachshund could easily jump over the wall so we just kept ours on a long lead line. There are houses overlooking the garden on one side, but the other has a sheep field and lovely views. Not obvious from the outside photo.
Summary: Olive cottage is gorgeous in a friendly pretty village, just not totally as we anticipated.
