Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Boutique luxury hotel in Hakone. I believe there are only 9 rooms in total. Brand new and stunning. The room is fantastic - decent size, bathroom huge, wardrobe, bed comfortable and loved the traditional feel to everything in the room, your own onsen with beautiful wooden surroundings that you fill with water yourself and can hear the large waterfall from the native bush below. Just divine and relaxing. Smart tv that you can watch from the onsen or in bed. Because of the waterfall you needed to have the volume up quite high though. Drinks in fridge were for your enjoyment free of charge. They include drinks and snacks in the restaurant area in the afternoon for your enjoyment. Lovely check in process, with a personal touch and a traditional tea. Bus stop right there at road entrance to the hotel - we used this a few times during our stay. Taxi is best when arriving and leaving with suitcases given the hills. 7 eleven a few hundred metres walk. We didn’t want to leave!

Negative: The staff are great and we appreciated they are still working out the finer details. They asked us if we wanted a full clean or a simple clean and what time suits. A simple clean being new towels and clear rubbish only. However they literally added new towels to the baskets but didn’t take the other ones away or tidy them up, so it looked like they hadn’t been at all and caused a bit of confusion with us. We should have just requested a standard clean, especially if you are out during the day. Or it shouldn’t be an option. It would have been awesome if they had speakers in the onsen area linked to tv. Even to play music. Fly screens on the door would have been greatly appreciated.
