The Neighborhood:
Our home is located in a section of Louisville known as Germantown, not far from the University of Louisville. Germantown was named after the influx of German immigrants who first settled into the neighborhood in the mid 1800s. The area is dotted by the largest collection of shotgun and camelback houses in the city. A popular local saying is that there’s a dive bar on every corner. Germantown is a mix of the old and new, maintaining its rich history while welcoming hip eateries and bars. Eat and drink your way through Germantown by starting your day off at Bean, where you can watch them roast your coffee beans. Next try some other local favorites like Hammerheads, Four Pegs, Check’s Café, Come Back Inn, and Dairy Kastle just to name a few. For nightlife, Zanzibar has established a reputation among locals for being a go-to live music venue featuring both local and national acts. It’s also home to the city’s only vintage arcade. You can Spin the drinks wheel at The Pearl of Germantown if you're feeling indecisive, and enjoy tunes on the jukebox or live DJs on the weekend at this buzzing neighborhood hangout. Karaoke enthusiasts will appreciate 21st in Germantown, where you can sing seven nights a week. Relax on the roomy patio at Nachbar, a laid back dive bar. Discover new things by venturing over to Schnitzelburg, Germantown’s sister neighborhood; home to the annual World Championship Dainty Contest in July. If you long for the outdoors and adventure, there are several parks not far from your front door. We also recommend checking out Kentucky Kingdom & Hurricane Bay. Is shopping your thing? There are several vintage boutiques, antiques stores and much more along the way. There's certainly no shortage of things to do during your stay!
Getting Around:
Louisville offers public transportation through TARC (Transit Authority of River City). Given the popular location, Uber and Lyft are also easily accessible. Already got wheels? Driving by car through Louisville makes it easy to travel from spot to spot. There is also easy access to major interstates like I-64, I-65, and I-71. Louisville also offers a bike share program called LouVelo, and has several stations throughout the city. Louisville also has several attractions that are within a walkable distance, especially when visiting downtown.
