This is a cute, ‘chocolate box-style’ cottage from the outside, built from the local sandstone, typical of this area. With a beautiful enclosed garden at the front, you could be stepping back through the centuries in this quaint, timeless village. In contrast, when stepping inside the cottage it is fresh and modern, having been completely renovated in 2024. At the front of the cottage with a large bay window looking out onto the garden you have the cosy lounge, with a sumptuous sofa and armchairs around the wood burner. The entrance hallway leads you into the dining room, with characterful flagstone flooring, this is a great room for socialising in an evening with a bottle of something special, toasting a fabulous holiday with family or friends. Four steps down take you into the kitchen, which is well equipped and ready for you to create all of your favourite meals. From the kitchen you have the utility room, as well as a ground-floor wet room, perfect for freshening up after returning from the beach. At the rear of the cottage, you have the addition of a small enclosed patio area.
Upstairs on the first floor, you have two tastefully presented double bedrooms, with two steps down to the family bathroom, where you have both a free-standing bath as well as a cubicle shower, the feature fireplace in here is a characterful reminder of the age of this beautiful cottage. Up on the second floor, you have the bright and welcoming third bedroom, which has twin beds beneath the vaulted ceiling, from the windows up here you have views over the fields to the abbey on the headland in Whitby.
This is a simply beautiful base to return to after a day of exploring. The village of Sleights is less than 5 miles from the centre of Whitby, as well as being on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The village has a welcoming atmosphere, with a range of amenities including a village shop, pub, hairdressers, fish and chip restaurant, butcher, and a bakery. The river Esk flows through the edge of the village and further along its banks, in neighbouring Ruswarp you have a boat and canoe hire where you can enjoy an idyllic trip on the water. The river attracts a host of wildlife, from leaping salmon and heron to otters and kingfishers if you are lucky enough to spot them. Children are sure to enjoy feeding the ducks or riding the miniature steam train as well as visiting the indoor play centre in the neighbouring village.
