Summary: The staff were lovely and the place was clean, but this is definitely not a four-star hotel. My room was on the second floor overlooking ack of the train station. This is not a wonderful location. There are constantly people walking by with suitcases. It is an old town Edinburgh, and is really not suitable for a senior, who I am. You have to walk uphills to get to any restaurants the hotel advertises that has a restaurant. It has a tapas bar on the seventh floor. You cannot get a meal there you can get little appetizers and drinks. The room is clean but small I hated that I could not open a window. They finally gave me a fan which did help to circulate the air. There is air-conditioning, but it just felt kind of claustrophobic. It was one large window that did not open. The breakfasts were OK. Neither great nor terrible. This is an OK Hotel. The best thing is that the staff were lovely and the place was clean. I will not stay there again. There are much better hotels in Edinburgh nicer locations. I had an artist vista room, which was a room on the second floor overlooking the back of the train station that is not an artist’s Vista. It was expensive too. I paid $4000 for seven nights. I expected more for my money as a senior solo traveler. I chose this hotel because it said that it had a restaurant I spent eight days before I took the train to Edinburgh at the Chesterfield in London, which was a charming hotel with a beautiful restaurant that served excellent meals.
